Shinji Fujino
Shinji Fujino has served on the Board of NuScale Power Corporation since December 2022 and is currently Senior Advisor at Unison Capital, a Japanese private equity fund.
In December 2023, Mr. Fujino co-founded Protein Immuno-Engineering Laboratories, Inc., where he now serves as Chief Executive Officer. He previously held senior leadership roles at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) from 2016 to 2021, including as Managing Executive Officer and Global Head of the Equity Finance Group, where he oversaw international investments in energy sectors such as renewables, hydrogen, power storage, and natural gas. He also played a key role in JBIC’s investment in NuScale through Japan NuScale Innovation, LLC—an experience that gives him a deep understanding of NuScale’s global positioning and financing strategies.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fujino spent decades at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), with a focus on energy policy, industrial strategy, and international economic affairs. His global energy expertise includes leading energy policy reviews at the International Energy Agency (IEA), promoting biotechnology at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and serving as Executive Director at Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation. His broad exposure to conventional and emerging energy technologies—especially in nuclear, renewables, and international cooperation—strengthens NuScale’s global strategic outlook.
Mr. Fujino earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in physics from the University of Tokyo, completing his undergraduate studies in the Department of Physics and his graduate studies in the Graduate School of Science.
