
Dr. Bum-Jin Chung
Dr. Bum-Jin Chung has served as a member of the NuScale Power Corporation board since December 2022, bringing deep technical insight and policy expertise that strengthen the company’s strategic positioning in global nuclear markets. Dr. Chung has served as a professor of Nuclear Engineering at Kyung Hee University in South Korea since March 2013 and began his career in February 1995 at the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology, where he held senior roles in nuclear regulation, and R&D until February 2002. He later led the nuclear research division at the National Research Foundation of Korea from March 2012 to February 2013 and served as a professor at Jeju National University from March 2002 to February 2013.
Dr. Chung has advised numerous Korean government committees on nuclear safety, energy policy, and electricity planning and has served as Vice President of the Korean Nuclear Society from September 2017 to August 2022. He served as President of the Korean Nuclear Society from September 2023 to December 2024 and was elected a full member of the National Academy of Engineering, Korea, in 2025.
Internationally, he has contributed as an expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), providing a global perspective on regulatory trends and reactor deployment.
His international engagement and leadership in nuclear policy equip NuScale with valuable insights to support global partnerships and inform evolving regulatory strategies.
Dr. Chung received a Bachelor of Science, Master’s, and Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Seoul National University, and also completed post-graduate study at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
