John L. Hopkins
John L. Hopkins is a seasoned energy executive and the driving force behind NuScale Power, the global leader in small modular reactor (SMR) technology. Since assuming the role of President and Chief Executive Officer in 2012, he has guided the company from a pre-revenue innovator through its successful listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: SMR) to become the first and only company to receive U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval for an SMR design — a historic milestone that established the new standard for safe, scalable, carbon-free nuclear power.
Mr. Hopkins brings decades of distinguished leadership from Fluor Corporation, where he began his career in 1989 and advanced through increasingly senior roles in global operations, business development, corporate development, and government services. He held multiple Group President positions, including oversight of Fluor’s Government Group, Emerging Markets, and corporate development initiatives, before transitioning to lead NuScale.
Under Mr. Hopkins guidance, NuScale has forged partnerships and supply chain alliances with premier organizations. He has driven the company’s strategic opening of an operations center to Houston, Texas, while securing significant momentum in the rapidly growing markets for AI data centers, industrial process heat, and energy security. His focus on disciplined execution, regulatory excellence, and customer-centric deployment has positioned NuScale as the clear “ready-now” SMR solution.
A recognized advocate for American nuclear leadership and business competitiveness, Mr. Hopkins previously served as Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he championed pro-growth policies and strengthened ties between industry and government. He continues to collaborate closely with senior U.S. officials, Congress, and international allies to advance pragmatic nuclear policy, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and accelerate deployment of proven light-water SMR technology. His strategic foresight and governance leadership continue to deliver long-term shareholder value and advance U.S. energy independence.
Mr. Hopkins holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin and has completed several advanced management programs.
