
Dr. Dale E. Klein
Dr. Dale E. Klein joined NuScale Power Corporation board of directors in May 2026, bringing more than 40 years of technical expertise and nuclear industry experience.
Dr. Klein began his career at The University of Texas at Austin in 1977. Presently, he serves as Professor Emeritus in Engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering. Dr. Klein previously served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at The University of Texas System from January 2011 to August 2022.
President George W. Bush appointed Dr. Klein as chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) from July 2006 to May 2009 and as a commissioner until March 2010. Prior to his service in the NRC, he was Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs from November 2001 to July 2006.
Internationally, Dr. Klein serves on the Independent Oversight Committee in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the chairperson of the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee for the Tokyo Electric Power Company. In addition, he is a member of the board of directors for AVANTech Inc., and Los Alamos Technical Associates.
Previously, Dr. Klein served on the boards of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its subsidiary, Arizona Public Service Company, from June 2010 to May 2023. Dr. Klein also served on the board of directors for the Southern Company from July 2010 until May 2026.
Dr. Klein was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in February 2025 for leadership in the development of programs that enhance the safety of nuclear power plants worldwide. He is also the recipient of numerous professional awards in the engineering field including the Engineer of the Year Award for the state of Texas.
Dr. Klein received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and holds a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution.
