Bob Knudson leads the NuScale Power Program Management Office. He oversees a portfolio of programs and projects required to complete NuScale SMR development, support project development and licensing activities and develop corporate process and systems infrastructure to meet future deployment requirements. As Program Director for Department of Energy (DOE) cooperative agreements, Knudson serves as the point of contact with DOE for the administration and execution of cost-share funding agreements. The Program Management Office provides NuScale management and stakeholders with long-range planning, budget allocation, resource management and status tracking information. Knudson also sets the standards for application of project management, risk management, project controls, earned value management and risk management to company projects. He is also the assigned executive responsible for facility management programs, including real estate, operations and maintenance, workplace safety, security and business continuity.

Knudson brings NuScale over 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry with an extensive background in project management, engineering and business operations. Knudson joined NuScale from ARES Corporation, where he was responsible for project management, business operations and business development in support of clients at the DOE’s nationwide complex of nuclear research and production facilities. His team provided project management, engineering and facility asset management services in support of new construction, existing building operations and maintenance and decommissioning activities.

Prior to ARES, Knudson was the manager of engineering with National Security Technologies for the Nevada Test Site and director of engineering with the site support services contractor at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. At Nevada, he served as design authority and design agency manager for 1,100 buildings and infrastructure systems valued at more than $700 million on a 1,375 square mile federal reservation, and was responsible for an extensive portfolio of engineering projects involving nuclear research, waste management and site infrastructure facilities.

Knudson began his career in the U.S. Air Force as a nuclear research officer. He was responsible for performing independent nuclear safety evaluations of nuclear weapon systems, including the Peacekeeper and Minuteman missile systems. After leaving the Air Force, he worked as a consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in regulatory analysis and the DOE in nuclear safety, engineering, operations, decommissioning and project management.

Knudson is a graduate from the University of Illinois with B.S. in nuclear engineering, earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver, and holds a Project Management Professional certification.
