Spring 2020

Every season, I look forward to connecting with you through the NUCLEUS newsletter to share what we’ve been up to here at NuScale. However, I recognize that this season finds us all in uncharted territory as we endeavor to take good care of ourselves and our communities while weathering the current public health crisis. Know that the NuScale team holds you and your loved ones in our thoughts and that we will continue to stay in contact with you through these types of communications. We are all having to make sacrifices and may at times feel a sense of isolation, remember however, that we are all still very much connected and can get through this together. At NuScale, we’ve made changes to prioritize the health and safety of our employees and of those with whom we do business because our second-to-none commitment to safety for our technology extends to every aspect of our operations. We continue to maintain strong program momentum and regular engagement with our stakeholders as we conclude the final stage of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission review that will lead to the approval of our groundbreaking small modular reactor (SMR) design in September 2020.

In this spring issue of NUCLEUS, we share program development updates from our Regulatory Affairs team, highlight the cost competitive features of our SMR design and nuclear power plant technology, and take a moment to reflect on the domestic and international relationships we’ve built in the past few years to explore the development, licensing, and construction of NuScale power plants across the globe.

As we navigate new challenges together, we can draw inspiration from our collective goal to provide clean energy and clean water for all humankind. We have the power to create an energy future that we can all be proud of—one in which advanced nuclear technology can promote social equity, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity to improve the quality of life for people across the world.

Whether this is your first time reading NUCLEUS or you’ve been with us from the start, we are glad to have you in the NuScale community. You are a part of changing the power that changes the world.

Warm regards,
John Hopkins
Chairman & CEO of NuScale Power
