Dr. José Reyes, co-founder of NuScale, was recognized as one of the world’s pioneering engineers with induction into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Dr. Reyes was acknowledged for innovations in small modular nuclear reactor design, nuclear safety, entrepreneurship and nuclear education. This recognition is one of the country and world’s highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
Other new members inducted by the NAE include Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Google Chief Scientist Martin Abadi, Boeing Dennis Muilenberg and others.
Dr. Reyes is the designer of NuScale’s passively-cooled small modular reactor (SMR) and is the company’s Cofounder and Chief Technology Officer. According to the NAE, academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice or education.
The induction ceremony occurred at the 2018 NAE Annual Meeting on Sunday, September 30th. The public ceremony took place at the National Academy of Engineering 2101 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, D.C.
