Letter from CEO John Hopkins

Fall 2018

As the holidays approach us here in the U.S. and 2018 draws to a close, all of us at NuScale realize the many reasons to be thankful for this year.  We are all watching several important milestones receding in our rear-view mirror as we keep driving toward next year’s challenging set of targets and goals.  What are this year’s highlights?

For one thing, as we’ve been establishing our industry-leadership position and meeting milestones of our NRC Design Certification Approval (DCA), it was time this year to refine how we project ourselves to the world in our communications.  I’m talking about a new brand identity and the launch of a fresh marketing campaign. It begins with our core brand statement: “Changing the power that changes the world.”

We crossed an important threshold with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission when a team of NRC auditors carefully scrutinized our adherence to the NRC’s Integrated System Validation procedures.  We passed with flying colors, keeping us on schedule for a final decision in 2020 on our Design Certification Application for our SMR design.

After an astounding 83 companies in 10 different countries answered our call for a vendor to develop the engineering plan for the actual manufacture of our unique small modular reactor, we have a winner! It is the extremely capable BWX Technologies, Inc., and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them as a prime subcontractor.

Learn more about these and other highlights of our year in this newsletter.
