Meeting U.S. and Global Needs

Energy is a leading discussion topic around the globe.

The U.S. Energy Information Agency forecasts the U.S. will need an additional 340 GWe of generating capacity by 2040. Globally, demand for electricity is expected to rise by more than 3,000 GWe in the same period.

Further compounding the electricity issue is the aging of existing infrastructure, new environmental regulations, volatility of fuel prices, and the significant cost to replace retiring base load. For the past 70 years, nuclear power has been an established and proven, clean, reliable, and economic resource. New nuclear plants are necessary to lessen the world’s dependence on fossil fuels, to meet the needs of both developed and expanding economies, and to slow the amount of CO2 emitted into our environment.

The research and development investment in a new generation of nuclear power promises dramatic improvement in the form of safe, modular, scalable, factory-built, nuclear reactors. NuScale has developed a clean, reliable, and economical technology that will play a significant role in meeting future demand in the U.S. and other nations.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) recognized nuclear energy as essential to meeting global carbon-reduction goals.
