The NuScale Advisory Board – Insights from the Industry and Customers

In 2008, the NuScale Advisory Board (NuAB) was established. Subsequent to winning the second round of the U.S. Department of Energy's competitively-bid, cost-sharing program in December 2013, NuAB membership expanded and now comprises 28 companies. Members include owners and operators of nearly two-thirds of the U.S. operating fleet of commercial nuclear power plants.

NuAB meets regularly and receives technical, regulatory, and commercial briefings and provides guidance to NuScale’s commercialization. NuAB is NuScale’s formal mechanism to receive input from customers and other industry experts on subjects including strategic planning (e.g., Program WIN), module transportability, design of plant systems, operations, regulatory initiatives, and plant economics. NuAB members also participate in meetings with local and federal government official and support legislative and public outreach.

NuAB members provide technical experts to participate in focused work groups that advise NuScale on specific aspects of its technology, engineering, and design development efforts and participate in design review meetings.

In addition to the NuAB, a group of five highly experienced, independent experts comprise the NuScale Technical Advisory Board (TAB).

The NuScale Advisory Board provides guidance to help optimize the design, manufacture, construction, operation, and maintenance of NuScale’s small modular reactor technology and power plant.
